How do I remove a stripped screw from wood?

There are several effective methods. The easiest is to place a wide rubber band flat over the screw head, then press your screwdriver firmly into it and turn slowly — the rubber fills the stripped grooves and adds grip. You can also use a screw extractor bit, which drills into the screw and backs it out. Another option is cutting a new slot across the head with a rotary tool or hacksaw, then using a flathead screwdriver. If the screw is shallow enough, locking pliers or vice grips can grab the head directly. For stubborn cases, drill the screw head off entirely, remove the wood piece, then extract the remaining shank with pliers.
