How do I tile a small area myself at home?
Start by measuring your area and buying about 10% more tile than you need to account for cuts and breakage. Clean and level your surface thoroughly, then apply tile adhesive or thinset mortar with a notched trowel. Press tiles firmly into place using tile spacers to keep grout lines even. Let the adhesive cure according to package directions, usually 24 hours.
Once set, remove the spacers and mix grout to a peanut butter consistency. Press it into the joints with a rubber float, then wipe away excess with a damp sponge before it dries. Buff off the haze with a dry cloth after about 30 minutes. Seal the grout after it fully cures to protect it from staining.
