What are signs your body is not recovering well from exercise?
Poor recovery shows up in several ways. Persistent muscle soreness lasting more than 72 hours, feeling more fatigued after rest rather than refreshed, and declining performance in workouts are major red flags. You might notice your resting heart rate is elevated in the morning, which is a reliable indicator of physiological stress. Sleep disturbances, irritability, and difficulty concentrating are common signs as well.
Physically, you may experience increased susceptibility to illness, joint pain, or unusual heaviness in your limbs. Loss of motivation to train, appetite changes, and slower progress despite consistent effort also suggest your body is struggling to adapt. These symptoms collectively point toward overtraining or under-recovery, meaning you need more rest, better nutrition, or reduced training volume.
