What are the signs of chronic stress in the body?

Chronic stress manifests in numerous physical ways. Common signs include persistent headaches, muscle tension or pain especially in the neck and shoulders, fatigue that doesn't improve with rest, and digestive problems like nausea, diarrhea, or irritable bowel syndrome. You may also notice frequent illness due to a weakened immune system, sleep disturbances, changes in appetite, and high blood pressure. Other physical indicators include skin problems like acne or eczema flare-ups, hair loss, decreased sex drive, and chest tightness or rapid heartbeat. Over time, chronic stress can contribute to more serious conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and depression. The body essentially stays in a prolonged fight-or-flight state, which gradually wears down multiple organ systems.
