In the United States, the National Weather Service generally issues a heat advisory when the heat index, which combines temperature and humidity to reflect how hot it actually feels to the human body, is expected to reach around 100 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit for at least two hours. A heat warning steps up from there, usually triggered when the heat index is forecast to hit 105 degrees or higher, sometimes sustained over multiple days.
