Why do sunrises look more colorful in winter?

Sunrises often appear more colorful in winter for a few reasons. The sun rises at a lower angle in winter, meaning sunlight travels through more atmosphere before reaching your eyes. This longer path scatters away more blue light and allows reds, oranges, and pinks to dominate. Winter air also tends to be drier and cleaner in many regions, with less humidity and haze, which can actually sharpen and intensify colors rather than washing them out.
